Tattoo Removal

Unwanted tattoos can be removed. With our Q-switched laser treatment, the results can be quite good. The skin can usually be restored close to its original color and appearance.

Tattoo Removal Techniques

There are many methods of tattoo removal. Most doctors prefer to use lasers. Some colors of inks are harder to remove than others and repeated visits are required. The FDA warns people NOT to use any of the many available do-it-yourself tattoo removal products. These products contain acids and can cause harmful skin reactions. The FDA suggests that people seeking tattoo removal see a doctor, not a tattoo artist.

Tattoo Removal: What To Expect

Different lasers are used on different tattoo colors to break down the pigment into small particles that can be eliminated from the body. After the laser breaks up the ink into tiny particles your immune system actually removes the ink. This process takes weeks and therefore for optimal results we like 4 to 6 weeks between treatments.  During your consultation, you will be given an estimate of how many treatments are likely to be needed. There are lasers that can remove tattoos with fewer treatments, but in our experience, the risks of scarring and hypo and hyperpigmentation are unacceptable with these more powerful lasers

Tattoo Removal Risks: Allergic Reactions

Lasers break down tattoo pigments, raising the possibility of allergic reactions. This is a function of the particular ink used and not necessarily related to the laser treatment per se. Fortunately, the blisters got better with routine skin care.
